Bricklaying is quick to start, physical, and in steady demand. Most people come in through a two-year apprenticeship, and experienced brickies without paperwork can qualify on site.

The main routes in

  1. Apprenticeship

A Level 2 bricklayer apprenticeship typically takes around two years, mixing site work with college. Level 3 follows for more complex work.

  2. College course

Full-time or part-time bricklaying courses teach the basics in a workshop. You'll still need site experience to qualify fully.

  3. Labour first, qualify later

Labouring for a gang is a common way in. Once you're laying regularly, an experienced worker NVQ turns that into a qualification.
